Niall Gibbons, Chief Executive for Tourism Ireland, welcomed the news, saying “this accolade couldn’t have come at a better time as we get ready to kick off our year-long celebration of all things Irish-with The Gathering Ireland in 2013.”
The Gathering will insure the Emerald Isle is one of the top places to travel in 2013, as it will host events, festivals, and reunions in honor of more than 70 million people worldwide who claim Irish heritage. It will welcome those with Irish connections back to the old sod to reconnect with their Irish culture. Visitors traveling to Ireland will be able to research their Irish genealogy, explore the villages of their roots, and meet new Irish friends along the way, while creating irreplaceable memories. It’s more than just a tribute to those with Irish blood. It will also offer music festivals, pub crawls, and sporting events in all corners of the country for those who are Irish in spirit as well.
