Arrive in Ireland’s capital and take today to familiarize yourself with Dublin. You’ll have lots to do in the days ahead, so make sure to rest up!
Pick up your rental car in Dublin City Center and head north towards Belfast. You’ll stop along the way at Tollymore Forest Park, where Theon is stalked by Ramsay Snow, and has been used to depict the snow-covered lands between Winterfell and the Wall. Continue on to the monastic ruins at Inch Abbey, which were moulded into The Twins and the Riverlands. The Hoster Tully funeral was set here, and it’s also where the Hound and Arya journeyed towards the Red Fork. Your final Game of Thrones tour point of the day is Castle Ward – former home to the Starks and the centerpiece of Winterfell. Entrance into Castle Ward is included in your tour package. Explore the grounds, and even take a Game of Thrones archery lesson! After a long day of touring, settle into your hotel in Belfast for the night.
Today you’ll drive to the Cushendon Caves to explore the spot where Davos Seaworth and Lady Melisandre landed, and birthplace of the shadow baby. You’ll continue to Murlough Bay, the setting for Theon’s awkward horse ride with sister Yara, and also the place where Davos is rescued from the Fingers by a passing ship. Finally today you’ll visit Ballintoy Harbor, the setting for the Iron Islands. Head back to Belfast tonight.
Explore Northern Ireland’s Capital city today. See the Titanic Studios, where a lot of the indoor scenes of Game of Thrones are filmed. Then head over to the Titanic Belfast for a bit of today’s world’s history. Titanic Belfast extends over nine galleries, with multiple dimensions to the exhibition, drawing together special effects, dark rides, full-scale reconstructions and innovative interactive features to explore the Titanic story in a fresh and insightful way. Your overnight tonight will be in Belfast.
Giant’s Causeway may not be directly related to Game of Thrones, but it’s worth seeing! Blending history and myth into one section of the Antrim Coast, the Giant’s Causeway tale is one of the prime examples of Irish story telling. Continue on to Dunluce Castle, the setting for the House of Greyjoy on the Iron Islands. Though some CGI helped bring the House of Greyjoy to life, you’ll still be able to see it in some of the most famous castle ruins in Ireland. Finish up your drive today by going through The Dark Hedges. In the world of Westeros, this moody trail becomes the treacherous King’s Road, where Arya disguised herself as a boy to avoid capture on the road to Winterfell. Head west to Derry where you’ll spend your overnight tonight.
Take an included walking tour of Derry to get yourself acquainted with the oldest walled city in Europe. Then take a drive out to visit one of the most beautiful beaches in Northern Ireland – Downhill Strand – where the ritual of the burning of the seven old gods on Dragonstone went down. Head back to Derry for your overnight tonight.
Drive back down to Dublin for your final day in Ireland. Head over to either the Guinness Storehouse or the Jameson Distillery for a bit of tourism before calling it a night.
The Emerald Isle hopes to see you again soon!
