1. Atholl Palace Hotel
This high-end 1871 manor hotel with Tummel Valley views is 1 mile from Pitlochry train station and 2.6 miles from the Edradour single malt distillery.

Elegant, individually designed rooms have scenic views, free WiFi, TVs, and tea and coffee making equipment. Turret suites add living areas. A separate manor house can be rented by the room or as a whole. There are also individual lodges; some with full kitchens. A Scottish restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, and there’s a bar, too. The spa includes a gym, treatment rooms and an indoor pool. There are extensive gardens. Conference facilities can hold up to 400 people.

2. Barony Castle Hotel
Behind the impressive stone façade lies a modern hotel offering comfort to the most discerning guest. Chill out or work out in our leisure facilities or take a leisurely stroll or bike ride in the extensive grounds to enjoy some pure Scottish air. 3. Culcreuch Castle Hotel
Set in a 1,600-acre country estate 14.9 miles from Stirling, this castle hotel dating from the 14th century is the ancestral seat of the Scottish clan Galbraith. Rooms and suites are furnished in a traditional Scottish style, most in the main castle have views over gardens and hills; some have 4-poster beds. All have en suite bathrooms, satellite TV, free WiFi and tea and coffee making facilities. The former stable block has more simple rooms. There are also lodges. Free breakfast is served in the atmospheric dungeon diner and there’s a wood panel hotel restaurant serving Scottish cuisine.

4. Dalhousie Castle
Set in wooded parkland, this upscale hotel occupies a castle dating to the 13th century and is 1.5 miles from the A7 and a 9.2 miles from Edinburgh city center.

Elegant rooms, in both the main house and an annexe, feature luxe fabrics and furniture, and have flat-screen TVs and free WiFi, as well as tea and coffee making equipment. Some rooms have historical themes. Some suites add whirlpool tubs.

Scottish fare is served in both a relaxed orangery with river views and a more upscale restaurant in the dungeon; breakfast is included. Other amenities include a full spa and event/conference spaces. Activity options include falconry and archery.

5. Dornoch Castle
With an in-town location, this turreted former bishop’s residence, now an upscale hotel, is a third of a mile from the Royal Dornoch Golf Club and 11.8 miles from Dunrobin Castle.

Rooms are classy and traditional, with en suite bathrooms, and upgraded rooms in the oldest section of the castle have period details such as 4-poster or half-tester beds, rich fabrics, and bathrooms with whirlpool tubs.

There’s an upscale restaurant or casual dining in the lounge, which features an imposing fireplace. There’s also a wood and stone-lined bar, plus gardens.

6. Fonab Castle
Overlooking Loch Faskally, this stately castle hotel and modern annexe is 7.5 miles from both Blair Castle and the Atholl Country Life Museum.

Annexe rooms are plush and modern, with flat-screen TVs, Nespresso machines, designer toiletries and free WiFi; some have balconies with loch views. Castle rooms add sitting rooms, and some have fireplaces. A penthouse suite has original paneled walls, vaulted ceilings and a raised 7-foot bed.

There’s an upscale restaurant, a casual brasserie, a bar, a lounge, patio dining in good weather, and extensive grounds. There’s also a fitness centre and spa with treatments for your relaxation purposes!

7. Glengarry Castle Hotel
In an elegant 19th-century manor house, this imposing hotel is 7.1 miles from Fort Augustus and 24 miles from Urquhart Castle ruins, both on the shores of Loch Ness.

Traditional country-style rooms have free WiFi, flat-screen TVs, and tea and coffee making facilities; some have 4-poster or half-tester beds.

Breakfast is served in the restaurant which also offers a set evening menu. The hotel has stair access only. Parking is free.

8. Stonefield Castle
Set on 60 acres of woodland gardens, this upscale hotel in an 1837 baronial castle overlooking Loch Fyne retains much of its original wood panelling, carved ceilings and marble fireplaces, and is 2.2 miles from Tarbert Golf Club.

Featuring en suite bathrooms, the stylish rooms feature sturdy wood furnishings, and come with free WiFi, flat-screen TVs, and tea and coffee making facilities. Many rooms offer loch views, and some have 4-poster beds.

The elegant restaurant looks out on the water and serves traditional Scottish cuisine. There’s also a stately, wood panel bar with an open fireplace, and a game room with a snooker table.
