Rental Car Terms and Conditions
The Terms and Conditions outlined below are those which apply to Tenon Tours car rental bookings only. The conditions have been agreed upon, unless otherwise stated in the Legal Agreement and Acceptance Advice. All items are subject to change.
 
Your Rental Includes:

  1. Unlimited Mileage & VAT Tax
  2. Theft Protection (TP)
  3. Location Service Charge (LSC)
  4. Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)

 
Super Coverage (SC)
The Super Cover Excess Waiver varies (EUR 20-35) per day plus VAT depending on car categories. Super Cover is available for renters to purchase if they have reserved on either the Exclusive & Inclusive programmes. Super Cover ( SCDW ) can be added to a rental which reduces the damage Excess to Zero. Note: SC is invalidated if you are negligent e.g. it does not include Tyres, Wheels, Keys, or Fuel.

 

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
Collision Damage Waiver ( CDW ) means the Hertz Driver is insured in relation to Damage to the Hertz vehicle – subject to a damage excess (where applicable)
 

Security Deposit
A deposit will be required by the car rental agency in case of any incidentals. This can only be paid with a Visa, Mastercard or American Express credit card and must be in the driver’s name. Discover and debit cards are not accepted. The deposit will be refunded to you after the vehicle is returned and inspected unless there are damages.

 

Additional Driver Charge
Your rate includes 1 (one) driver. A charge of EUR 10.00 per day, per each additional driver will be applied, including tax.
 

US License
You do not need an international driver’s license or any special permits to drive a car in Ireland and/or the UK. Must hold a current national license valid for at least 2 years or more at time of Rental. Provisional or Learner drivers or seriously endorsed licence holders are not Eligible to rent a vehicle e.g drink driving disqualification. A valid passport will also be required.

 

Drop Fees
Ireland: One Way rentals are free of charge between Dublin Airport, Dublin Downtown Locations ( South Circular &, North Circular Road Locations ) Cork Airport, Cork City & Shannon Airports on all rental durations. If dropping your rental off to one of the following locations: Kerry Airport, Knock Airport, Sligo, Wexford, Waterford City then a one-way drop will incur a fee of EUR 70 (3-4 Days), EUR 25 (5+ Days).

A one way fee of EUR 160 is applicable for returns to the following locations in Northern Ireland: Belfast International Airport, Belfast City Airport, Belfast Downtown, City of Derry

United Kingdom: One Ways not allowed into the UK.

 

GPS
We cannot guarantee that your car rental will be equipped with a GPS. Please ask the representative if your car has a navigation system. If not, you may rent a GPS through the agency directly for an additional cost. As an alternative, we recommend downloading the ‘HERE WeGo’ mobile app onto your smartphone. This app allows you to download maps of the countries you will be traveling to. Once you arrive at your destination, you will be able to use the app for driving directions and locating nearby gas stations. The best part of the app is that all of this can be done completely offline, without connecting to the internet, as long as the maps are pre-downloaded!
 

Car Size/Luggage Allowance
Your Travel Specialist has selected the vehicle size based on your number of passengers. Luggage space is limited to 1 checked bag no larger than 26″ in height and 1 personal item (backpack, purse, computer bag, etc.). If you have larger or extra bags (golf clubs, camera equipment), please let us know so we can make sure you have the correct size vehicle.
 

Maximum Age
Customers aged between 75 – 79 years can rent with specific conditions :

  1. Must drive regularly & hold a current motor insurance policy.
  2. Provide a letter from their doctor to state that they have been in good health for at least 12 months.
  3. Provide a letter from their insurers to state that they have not been involved in any incidents in the last 5 years.

 

Add-Ons
When you arrive at the car rental agency, you will be prompted with a few options to add on to your reservation such as roadside assistance, adding another driver, pre-fuel, etc. It is completely up to your discretion to add these items as they cannot be pre-purchased by Tenon Tours.

Rental Car Terms and Conditions

Super Coverage (SC)
The Super Cover Excess Waiver varies (GBP 12-15 or EUR 15-20) per day plus VAT depending on car categories. By accepting the SC in addition to DW, your financial responsibility for accidental damage to the Enterprise vehicle, its parts and accessories, is reduced to 100 GBP/EUR for manual vehicles and 200GBP/250EUR for automatics and minivans. Note: SC is invalidated if you are negligent e.g. it does not cover broken or lost keys, contamination of fuel, or damage to wheels or tires.

 

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
DW limits your financial responsibility for accidental damage to the Enterprise vehicle, and its parts and accessories, to the Excess Amount stated. This excess may be waived by the purchase of SC.

 

Security Deposit
A deposit will be required by the car rental agency in case of any incidentals. This can only be paid with a Visa, Mastercard or American Express credit card and must be in the driver’s name. Discover and debit cards are not accepted. The deposit will be refunded to you after the vehicle is returned and inspected unless there are damages.

 

Additional Driver Charge
Your rate includes 1 (one) driver. Further additional drivers are chargeable at 18GBP for UK rentals and 11EUR for Ireland rentals including VAT per day, with a maximum rental cost of 180GBP or 110EUR for each driver.

 

US License
You do not need an international driver’s license or any special permits to drive a car in Ireland and/or the UK. You must bring with you and present your valid US driver’s license to operate any rental vehicle. All Renters must hold a current national license issued in English and valid for at least 1-year or more at time of rental. A valid passport will also be required. Provisional / Learner drivers or seriously endorsed license holders are not eligible to rent a car e.g. drunk driving Disqualification.

 

Cross Border Policy
Ireland – There is no charge for taking a vehicle between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Vehicles rented from Enterprise Ireland can be taken out of Mainland Ireland only for travel to the UK, where there is a charge of €175.00, and the vehicle must be returned to the territory it was rented from. Please notify the branch prior to rental of the vehicle if you would like to arrange this and please plan on staying in the rental location for at least 24-hours to collect your permit for out-of-country travel.

UK – There is no charge for taking a vehicle between the countries of the UK. Vehicles rented from Enterprise UK can be taken out of Mainland UK only for travel to Ireland, where there is a
charge of £125.00, and the vehicle must be returned to the territory it was rented from. Please
notify the branch prior to rental of the vehicle if you would like to arrange this and please stay in
the rental location for at least 24-hours to collect your permit for out-of-country travel.

 

GPS

Vehicles: Vehicle size/type will depend upon group size and availability of the touring company. Exact vehicle type and size cannot be guaranteed but will be selected based on the comfort of all guests and set luggage allowance.

 

Luggage: Important- The vehicle chosen is determined upon the amount of total pre-booked guests and one (1) checked bag (no larger than 26 inches in height) and one (1) personal item (backpack, purse, computer bag) per person. If traveling with more luggage you must notify Tenon Tours upon booking or you may be required to upgrade or hire an additional vehicle, upon your service pick-up date. All vehicle upgrades, or additional charged hours, due to luggage overages are the responsibility of the client at the quoted price difference.

 

Tipping: Tipping is always at your discretion; please refer to our tipping guide online for customary suggestions.

Times/Schedule: Using our best judgement, times will be confirmed based on your itinerary and availability. If you have any specific time requests, please let us know as your transfers will be confirmed in the next few weeks.

 

Transfers: Tenon Tours does not arrange/include transportation to and from the train stations unless otherwise mentioned. It is fairly easy to utilize public transportation throughout Ireland, the UK & Italy. You can use Uber, Taxis, Trams, and or Buses.

 

Arrival Time:
Please plan to arrive at the train station with enough time to comfortably collect your tickets and take your seats.
– If your train is traveling to a different country we recommend checking-in 45-60 minutes prior to departure.
– If your train is traveling in the same country we recommend checking-in 30 minutes prior to departure.

 

Ticket Types:
Using our best judgement your ticket type will be confirmed based on availability. If you have a preference or would like first class tickets please let us know as your transfers will be confirmed 90 days prior to your departure.

 

Irish Rail Ticket Types and Descriptions:

Low Fare Your ticket is valid on the selected service only. No change or refund is possible.
Semi-Flexible Fare Without changing your booking, you can travel on that day, on the service directly before or directly after the service you booked, subject to availability.
Flexible Fare On the day of travel, without changing your booking, you can travel at any time, subject to availability.

 

Scotrail Ticket Types and Descriptions:

Advanced For a specific train and must travel on your specified service. Unless your train is cancelled or delayed, and you choose not to travel, there are no refunds on Advance Tickets.
Off-Peak Semi-flexible Tickets with some time and/ or date restrictions. You will have to travel at certain times of the day and/or days of the week, and sometimes on specific routes or operators.
Any Time Flexible Tickets with no restrictions on time. Tickets are valid for one single journey on the date shown on the Ticket.

The cost for these transportation methods is not included in your tour unless specifically noted in your confirmation.

 

England

Can I ask my chauffeur driver questions along the way?

Of course! In fact, we encourage it!  Your driver will be an amazing source of knowledge for the area you’re touring, so be sure to pick their brain as much as possible!

Are the pedals set up the same on manual cars in Ireland and the UK as in the U.S.?

The pedals are set up the same on cars in Ireland and the UK, though everything else in the car is reversed as the driver’s side is on the right of each vehicle. Reminder – you’ll shift with your left hand!

Can I pre-book a seat on a small group escorted tour?

Seats are not able to be pre-booked for any tours to allow passengers a daily first come first serve basis.

What type of transportation will we use while traveling on a Hopper?

Hopper tours, depending on your country and itinerary, utilize a combination of transfer types including door-to-door transfers with a driver, trains and/or scheduled bus.

For scheduled Hopper tours with door-to-door transfers between towns, vehicle types will vary depending on group size. While we don’t retain a single vehicle for the duration of your trip, we do work with several local transportation and tour suppliers to ensure comfortable, hassle-free transfers and sightseeing excursions. The type of transfer may vary and is subject to change based on the total number of travelers traveling to/from the same destination on any particular date.

Airport transfers to/from the airport are provided via scheduled service shuttle buses to the city-center. Upgrades may be available for door-to-door transfers with a driver.

If customizing your own Hopper we can help you set up various types of transportation between towns including a private driver, train and/or scheduled coach bus transfer. When utilizing scheduled transportation the proximity from pick-up and drop-off points to your assigned hotel may require up to a few block walk or hiring a taxi at your own expense. Maps of locations will be provided.

Will somebody pick me up at the airport upon arrival?

Generally there will not be a Tenon Tours representative at the airport upon your arrival unless you booked a private taxi. Please follow the directions you were given on your transfer vouchers and/or travel documents in order to locate your appropriate transportation company (car, bus, private taxi).

Ireland

What type of transportation will we use while traveling on a Hopper?

Yes! Your driver, while they may have accents native to their respective countries, will always speak English.

Your By-Your-Side Service℠ TEAM member will review your time and touring options so that you can plan out activities accordingly. All departure times will also be listed on the travel documents issued prior to departure from the U.S..

What is the difference between a door-to-door transfer and a private chauffeur driver guide?

A door-to-door transfer is exactly that: You can hire a driver to pick you up at point A to take you to point B. With a service like this the driver is not a licensed guide to provide you with information regarding sites, history or stories during your transfer.

If you hire a Private Chauffeur Driver, they will get you from point A to point D, with stops at point B & C along the way while they are also providing you guidance as to where you are and what you’re seeing.

Italy

Does my chauffeur driver stay with me all day?

Private chauffeur drivers are required to follow restrictions for the amount of hours per day they may drive, breaks they must take, and the amount of days they may work in a row. Drivers are legally allowed to work for only 8 consecutive hours per day of transferring and touring. Driver are also required by law to build in certain break times to their day which means your itinerary will also need to allow for this. When I book a chauffeur driver tour, can I plan my itinerary on the go?

Prior to travel you will need to have a rough outline of where you want to go and what you want to do so that we can help you determine if it is even possible within the driver’s hired time limits and the countries regulations.  There should be some flexibility built in for unforeseen time issues and/or if you would like to take a more causal approach to your sightseeing.  Always remember, there are time, mileage and driver regulations that must be abided by.  These regulations are not set by Tenon Tours and your driver will work with you directly as to any itinerary changes or updates that may be required.  For more details on itinerary planning for chauffeur driver tours, download our Private Chauffeur Driver Guide here!

Are there age restrictions to rent a car in Italy?

Yes. In Italy, the driver must be over the age of 21, but drivers under the age of 25 may incur additional fees. There is no maximum age.

Generally there will not be a Tenon Tours representative at the airport upon your arrival unless you booked a private taxi. Please follow the directions you were given on your transfer vouchers and/or travel documents in order to locate your appropriate transportation company (car, bus, private taxi).

What do you mean by scheduled service?

With scheduled transfers you’ll enjoy a ride on a luxury coach bus or train. Scheduled transfers can be upgraded to private transfers for an additional charge, please ask your sales representative.

Are driver tips included in my Chauffeur tour price?

Tip is not included, but suggested based on the level of service you receive. Tipping is always at your discretion; please refer to our tipping guide online for customary suggestions.

What if I pick up my car before the time on my confirmation?

If you arrive to pick up your car before your confirmation time and a car is available they will let you pick it up early. If you pick up the car early your return time will then change to the same time on the day you need to drop it off as car rentals are valid for a 24-hour rental period.

Wales

Do I need a credit card to travel?

Many credit cards offer additional insurance coverage, however it is VERY important to note if the country you are visiting is included. Ireland in particular is often an exception to this additional insurance coverage. If you’re one of the lucky few where Ireland is covered, all we need is proof of coverage from the credit card company to receive to book.
