Betty Dixon

Savannah, GA

Betty traveled with Tenon Tours to Ireland, Wales and England! She and her group had a private chauffeur touring them around and had a great trip. Read about her experiences below:

What made you want to travel here?:
“Some had never been and those who had visited these countries before wanted to return. We are members of the Savannah’s St. David’s Society which is a Welsh Heritage Society. There were 7 adults in our group.”

Where were the top 3 places to visit on your wish list? If you made it to them, what did you think?:

“There were so many places we wanted to visit but I guess the top 3 were Snowdonia National Park, St. David’s Cathedral and the castles – which I know is more than 3 :)”

Tough question alert! What was the best part about your vacation?:

“Very tough question! We had a great driver/tour guide who made the entire vacation enjoyable. Having someone very knowledgeable who knows the area and the history, lets you relax and enjoy the experience.”

What made you want to travel with Tenon Tours?
“I did a Google search of tours to Wales and the UK which is how I found Tenon Tours. I went on your website and then called.”

How was your experience with your Personal Sales Representative(s)?:
“I worked very closely with Stephanie. I have never planned anything this big involving other people. Plus the numbers in our group kept changing, making travel plans difficult. Stephanie and her associates were very helpful and easy to work with as we made several adjustments together. I was kept informed every step of the way.”

Do you wish you prepared better for any specific part of the trip?:

“I wish I had read more about the areas we visited prior to our trip. Once you are there and you see these amazing castles, monuments,St. David’s Cathedral, etc. you want to know more about the area and the people who were there before you.”

Do you have any advice to offer up about the weather?:

“We had great weather the entire time! But each of us packed a raincoat and mini umbrella. I also recommend packing clothes that you can layer. Some days are cooler/warmer than others. We also brought snacks to eat on the bus as we traveled from place to place.”

What are your favorite souvenirs you brought home?:

“One of our group bought children’s books on the castles at many of the stops. Wales is the birth home of Roald Dahl who wrote “Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory” and “James and the giant peach” so we looked for these books too. There were also purchases of Penderyn from the Distillery! My personal favorite was a small piece of coal I picked up from the ground at a coal mine we visited.”

Were there any unplanned parts of your trip that wound up turning into one of your favorite travel stories?:

“We were able to fit in several unplanned stops which really enhanced our visit. My favorite unplanned stop was the coal mine, part of the Wales National Museum. That was such a moving experience to see how miners and their children worked before laws and safety conditions made changes. We also visited a beautiful church in Nevern? Very old and still in use. Fresh flowers on the alter and on window sills. We were able to swing by Devil’s Bridge which was familiar with having seen “Hinterland” on Netflix. Then we stopped by Pentre Ifan Burial Chamber which was literally in a field and a place we would have never known about if we had not been taken there by Dai.”

Is there anything else that you would like to mention regarding your vacation?:
“We spent one night in Tregaron at the Talbot Hotel. I was a bit concerned because I had read so little about the area and questioned staying there. It was one of my favorite places! The hotel is very old on the outside but the inside renovations are perfect! In addition, the chef at the hotel’s restaurant was superb! We all ordered from the menu and then asked our server to make other suggestions, which she did. EVERYONE enjoyed their meal and then we met the chef. The restaurant inside the hotel is definitely a destination for foodies!!!!”

What destination is next on your list?:
“This trip will be hard to top but we are thinking about it……..”
