Bob Slaney

Apollo Beach, FL

Bob and his grandson, Peyton, recently returned from a self-drive vacation to Ireland. Read about their travels and experiences below:

Enjoying a Guinness at Darcy’s Bar in Galway!

Who did you travel with?:

“I traveled with my 14 year old grandson who thought the trip was fantastic.”

What made you want to travel to Ireland?:

“Family history. I’d been to Ireland for very short visits in the past but had never seen much of the country.”

Where were the top 3 places to visit on your wish list? If you made it to them, what did you think?:

  1. “Dublin – we enjoyed it and spent a lot of time walking from place to place. Of course, our favorite place was the Guinness Brewery.”
  2. ”Wexford – it felt very different than my first visit, mainly because we saw different places than I had seen in the past.”
  3. “Killarney – we enjoyed our stay here and the Ring of Kerry bus tour. The only disappointment was that it rained the whole day of the tour.”

Tough question alert! What was the best part about your vacation?:
“We loved the Ashford Castle! Great place, wonderful suits and fabulous dinner. The server was attentive and entertaining.”

What made you want to travel with Tenon Tours? What advantages did you have booking with Tenon Tours?:

“Pricing was within budget; the itinerary was fabulous and well detailed.”

How was your experience with your Personal Sales Representative(s)?:
“The travel advisors were terrific and wonderful to work with. Dominique was particularly flexible and changed our reservations when my wife was not able to travel due to poor health. She changed all of our bookings.”

Do you have any advice to offer up about the weather?:
“Actually, except for a couple of days, the weather was quite pleasant.”

Were you able to meet any friends along your journey?:
“We met people, of course. We did not make any enduring friendships but I always enjoy conversations with new people.”

What are your favorite souvenirs you brought home?:
“I actually only bought one souvenir for a good friend. It was a wall mount saying about the wonders of wine.”

Were there any unplanned parts of your trip that wound up turning into one of your favorite travel stories?:
“My favorite story – we had booked a large car. Unfortunately, it did not do well crossing an extremely narrow one way bridge on the west coast. The bridge had some abutments along the sides that made it more narrow and the car scraped one of the abutments and damaged the whole passenger side.”

How did you feel about driving on the “wrong” side of the road? What tips do you have for others planning a self-drive tour?:
“Except for the very narrow bridge, no problem. Get a small car. You will end up on narrow roads not meant for a wide car.”

What destination is next on your list?:
“Mediterannean cruise – Italy and Greece.”

Do you have ANY extra experiences, tips, notes, advice or stories you may want to share?:
“Have a good time and don’t worry when you make mistakes. Be sure to buy super CDW if you rent a car…Keep left on ‘round-abouts’ and ‘circles’.”

Thank you Bob for sharing your thoughts of your vacation with us!
We certainly hope to assist you again with your next adventure. 🙂
