Marlene Miller

Tonawanda, NY

Marlene and her great grand niece Olivia just got back from their Great British adventure! Read about their journey below:

What destination(s) did you visit?:
“England, Scotland & Wales”

The Edinburgh Tattoo!

What made you want to travel to Great Britain?:

“Combination of history interest and family history”

Where were the top 3 places to visit on your wish list? If you made it to them, what did you think?:
“Stonehenge, Scone & Edinburgh. Yes made it to all of them and it was Awesome!”

Tough question alert! What was the best part about your vacation?:

“Seeing the historic locations important to my family’s history”

What made you want to travel with Tenon Tours? What advantages did you have booking with Tenon Tours?:
“The custom self-driving ability”

How was your experience with your Personal Sales Representative(s)?:

Selfie Stick! Marlene and Olivia are enjoying sightseeing around London

Do you wish you prepared better for any specific part of the trip?:
“I do wish I’d realized how much walking and stairs (especially in our B&B’s) there would be) as I found some of it difficult, but with Olivia’s help I managed.”

Do you have any advice to offer up about the weather?:
“Just be prepared for rain. We were and we did skip a couple of items rather then getting soaked, but they were not major items on my list.”

Did travel insurance come in handy for you?:
“Luckily we didn’t need it.”

Were you able to meet any friends along your journey?:
“Yes, our 3 nights in Glasgow were planned to be mostly spent with my friend from Paisley, we hadn’t seen each other in 25 years.”

What are your favorite souvenirs you brought home?:
“My Bruce anniversay tartan”

Marlene at Robert the Bruce’s tomb!

How did you feel about driving on the “wrong” side of the road?:
“In it self it wasn’t a problem, I had done so many years ago in the Bahamas while driving a standard left hand drive US manufactured car. The problems I had were with the car it’s self, which was an eco-friendly Renault Captor that I just didn’t like.”

What tips do you have for others planning a self-drive tour?:
“Be ready for narrow winding mountainous roads in Wales and Scotland. Parking is also difficult in most places and never near where you want to go.”

Any advice for getting around?

“Using maps, GPS, following road signs, etc..: We didn’t find many maps, I had never used GPS, but Olivia knew how to program it, thankfully and we managed, sort of. Yes, we did have to back track a few times, but we found what we needed. Although I hope I never hear a GPS tell me to “cross the round about” again!!!!”

Was there anything about your trip that really stood out to you?:
“Our initial driver from the airport to our London hotel was wonderful!! His name was Paul, regretfully I didn’t get his last name, but if you can use him again you should. He kept up a running commentary as he drove us across the city telling what we were seeing and where we were.”

Thank you Marlene & Olivia! We do hope to assist you again in the future for your next adventure 🙂
