If you were outside with your black polymer shades to observe the solar eclipse on April 8, then you might be excited to experience such an incredible event again. There’s good news on the horizon: another solar eclipse is coming in 2026. The best places to view it? Portugal, Spain & Iceland

On August 12, 2026, the eclipse path will migrate over the East and North parts of Spain and Portugal, continuing on to Iceland’s western side. More specifically, locations such as the Canary Islands in Spain, the Algarve region in Portugal and the western side of Iceland are expected to be optimal viewing spots.

Other countries in Europe including France, Ireland and the United Kingdom may experience a partial eclipse, so if you’re planning to visit one of these destinations, you may still be able to catch a glimpse of it!

After witnessing this April’s eclipse, you can’t deny there’s something magical about experiencing such an event. In 2026, imagine you’re on the trip of a lifetime, standing under the vast expanse of, say, the Icelandic sky, watching the moon rise and cross the sun in the middle of the day. A trip where you’ll catch the Northern Lights and an eclipse? Now that’s the epitome of “once-in-a-lifetime.”

So, let’s start planning! We’ll soon be launching new itineraries tailored to optimal viewing areas of the eclipse—be sure to sign up on our interest list below so we can let you know when those are live. For now, let’s consider your destination (or a combination of all three!).

Iceland, the epitome of dramatic landscapes with glaciers, volcanoes, geysers and hot springs, provides a totally unique backdrop for witnessing the eclipse. The western side of Iceland is expected to be within the path of totality, making it the perfect viewing location. Beyond the eclipse, Iceland is teeming with opportunities for exploring unique wonders such as the Golden Circle, the Blue Lagoon, black sand beaches and the Snæfellsnes Peninsula.

The remote Westfjords region will give you unobstructed views of the solar eclipse, with its vast expanses of wilderness. In Reykjavik, the capital city, you can explore the magnetic city and Icelandic culture, all while witnessing the eclipse from urban vantage point.

Spain, with its limitless supply of culture and history, offers an ideal setting for experiencing the 2026 eclipse. From the vibrant streets of Barcelona to the gorgeous natural beaches of the Costa Brava, you can choose from a variety of unique locations to witness the eclipse. Spain is a perfect combination of art, culture & history to pair with the solar spectacle.

Portugal’s sun-kissed shores, vineyard regions and charming villages provide a delightful backdrop for eclipse chasing. The Algarve region, with its golden beaches and dramatic cliffs, offers a great view of the sun’s corona during totality.

In the Alentejo region, travelers can spend time in the rolling countryside, surrounded by hills and family-owned vineyards. Madeira Island, located in the Atlantic Ocean, provides a totally distinctive (and tropical!) vantage point with its rugged coastline and lush landscapes.

Whether you’re ready to explore the volcanic landscapes of Iceland, lounge on the beaches of Portugal or wander through the historic streets of Spain, these destinations offer unique opportunities to both explore and be present for such an amazing natural phenomenon. Plus, if you know us, you already know every single trip is unique.
