Beeston Castle was built in the 1220s by Ranulf de Blondeville, 6th Earl of Chester, making this attraction a previous royal castle. Beeston Castle is located in Beeston, Chestire and is perched on a crag approximately 350 feet above the Chesire Plain. While the castle the main attraction, visitors can also explore the Woodland Park nearby. It surrounds the castle and gives nature-lovers a unique experience. The woodlands are home to a variety of wildlife including foxes and falcons.

Bolsover Castle is located in Bolsover, Derbyshire. The original fortress was built between 1612 and 1617 by Sir Charles Cavendish. The castle that sits there today, however, was built on top of the original castles ruins sometime in the 17th century. The site is listed as a Scheduled Ancient Monument by the English Heritage charity and offers a wall walk, fountain garden and tearoom treats.

Carisbrooke Castle is located in Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight. Known as a king’s prison, it once held Charles I prisoner during the months leading up to his trial. Today, visitors can explore the castle as well as a museum, Edwardian garden, chapel and even donkeys.
Out of all the castles in England, Dover Castle is the largest. This fortress was built in the 11th century and is full of historical significance from the Romans to the Cold War. Visitors can explore the castle’s secret war tunnels, climb the Great Tower and even test their skills in The Bunker, an immersive escape room designed for competitive tourists.
Dustanburgh Castle was built in the 14th century by Earl Thomas of Lancaster. Located in Northumberland, this castle was built on an existing Iron Age fort. Apart from the beautiful coastal landscape, visitors can experience livestock and rock pools. There is even a ghost walk you can take along the coastline, where rumors that a 16th century knight still roams.
Highclere Castle was built by architect Charles Barry in the 19th century. It is actually considered a country house that was built in the Jacobethan style, and the surrounding park was designed in the 18th century. This property is approximately 5,000 acres and includes state rooms, gardens and woodlands, a park and even an Egypt exhibition. Fun fact – Highclere Castle is also the filming location of Downton Abbey!
Kenilworth Castle has an interesting history. It was built over several centuries, starting in the 1120s as a tower and expanding to a castle in the 13th century under the rule of King John. In the 14th century, John of Gaunt expanded it once again to match the style of the era only to be expanded a third time by the Earl fo Leicester. Today, visitors can explore the tower, Elizabethean garden, the stables tearoom and much more.
It’s believed that Porchester Castle was built in the late 3rd century as a baronial castle that was later taken under royal control in 1154. Located in Portchester, Hampshire, Porchester Castle offers visitors a guided audio tour as well as areas for family picnicking.
Tintagel Castle is located on Tintagel Island in Cornwall. The rugged coastline adds to the enchanting atmosphere, where guests can explore the remains of this 13th century castle and a life-sized bronze sculpture inspired by King Arthur and Tintagel’s royal past.
It’s believed that construction for Warkworth Castle began in 1139 by Henry, Earl of Northumberland who was son of David I of Scotland. Today it stands as a ruined fortress along the River Coquet. There are many events for day visitors to attend including a knight’s tournament.
