1. “PHILOMENA”
This award-winning drama follows a mother in search of her son who was adopted by an American family. It is based on the book “The Lost Child of Philomena Lee” by Martin Sixsmith. Starring Judi Dench, this film is based on true events that capture hearts with the threads of faith, family and forgiveness.
2. “INTO THE WEST”
This popular family film tells the story of two young brothers searching for their magical horse. Intertwined into the story is a gripping family dynamic. While on the surface, this may not seem to be intriguing, but when the social aspects, family issues and diverse relationships are brought together, it creates a heartwarming story that will draw the viewer in. The film is suitable for most audiences as it is rated PG.
3. “BLOODY SUNDAY”
Arguably one of the best Irish films, this portrays the true events of the Bloody Sunday Massacre which took place back in 1972 on the streets of Derry. This docu-drama chronicles the protest turned tragedy by following activist Ivan Cooper (played by James Nesbitt) throughout that day. Granted, the story does start slow as it sets the foundation for the story. In the end, it is a powerful retelling of those historic events.
4. “WAKING NED DEVINE” – 1998
This comedy is the story of an older group of friends, a winning lottery ticket and their journey. It is sure to bring some smiles and generate some laughter.
