Tammi and Lee: A Surprise Vow Renewal in Ireland

Tenon traveler Tammi told us that her husband, Lee, always wanted to get married under a mighty tree in the beautiful, rolling countryside of Ireland. While their first nuptials took place in a courthouse state-side, Tammi had something amazing in store for their vow renewal—can you guess?

Meet Tammi and Lee, a couple from Mt. Dora, Florida, that embarked on a three-week exploration of Ireland and Scotland! The pair had not taken a vacation together in over 10 years, and they decided on these destinations for a couple reasons: while Lee grew up in Europe, he had never been to either of the two countries (that pair excellently for a trip, by the way!), and Tammi has roots in both. 

Tammi began researching travel companies, and Tenon Tours consistently appeared in tags and recommendations during research. She appreciated the various styles of travel and levels of adventure offered, and customization was key.

They spent three weeks overseas, which allowed time for a truly immersive experience. Tammi particularly enjoyed learning the locals’ ways of everyday life. They explored areas that are less popular and crowded, which provided the opportunity to really connect with the authentic countryside, lifestyle and history.

A favorite? Tammi and Lee enjoyed the Husky Experience in Scotland. Located in Cairngorms National Park, the pair visited the workdogs’ homes and were “kitted” out for a ride! Pulled by a team of eager huskies, the pair viewed the endless hills and valleys of the park’s many acres. They also visited distilleries and the famed seven-floor Guinness Storehouse.

Three weeks of driving on the opposite side of the road on narrow streets proved to be challenging, but fun. Sometimes, Tammi said, there was two-way traffic on a single lane road with blind curves—talk about learning as you go!

Of course, the highlight of not only the trip, but of a lifetime as Tammi says, was the fairytale vow renewal at Muckross Abbey in Killarney, Ireland. When they first married years ago, no photos were taken to commemorate the special day, and it was certainly made up for this time around! 

Tammi kept her plans a secret; Lee only discovered they were renewing vows when arriving at the Abbey. The ancient stone walls and vibrant landscape was the perfect backdrop for the moment. Be prepared: the following photos are incredible!
