Planning an international vacation can be an intimidating process, but we’re here to make it simple. From choosing the proper luggage size to making the most of your wardrobe, we’ve outlined everything you need to know when packing for a trip to Europe.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT LUGGAGE
When it comes to packing, the first thing you’ll need to do is make sure that you have appropriate luggage. This includes color, size and durability.
You may be wondering – does the color of my luggage matter? It does! When choosing luggage for your trip, we recommend going with neutral colors. Brightly colored bags can make for an easy target for sticky fingers.
The size of your luggage is something to consider as well. Of course, you’ll want to make sure that it serves two purposes: it offers enough storage space for your clothing and accessories, and that it will fit in your rental car. Your car will be chosen at the discretion of Tenon Tours and will be large enough to fit one carry-on and one checked bag per traveler. If you plan on packing more than that, please notify your Travel Specialist or BYSS TEAM member or you may be required to upgrade your car at pick up.
MULTI-PURPOSE YOUR WARDROBE
You can make the most of your luggage space if you multi-purpose your wardrobe.
Pack in layers! Bring a combination of undershirts, T-shirts, long-sleeved shirts and jackets – especially when traveling to coastal or windy destinations.
Pack mix-and-match items that can be worn more than once! This includes joggers, tights, tank tops, etc.
BUY THE RIGHT TRAVEL BACKPACK
…That is, if you plan on taking a travel backpack. It’s the most convenient way to keep your personal items on you while traveling. Our Operations Coordinator, Margo, recommends that all first-time travelers keep everything in their backpacks. If you don’t own one already, there are many options that will keep everything organized, compact and light for long days away from your accommodations.
IMPORTANT TRAVEL DOCUMENTS
You definitely don’t want to end up at the airport’s security checkpoint to realize you forgot your passport, or that you arrive at your rental car pick-up to find that you don’t have your driver’s license.
Here is a quick checklist of the documents you’ll want to bring with you on any international trip:
- Passport
- Driver’s license (and an international driving permit if required in your destination)
- Physical vaccine cards (we recommend this for all our vaccinated travelers)
