    Travel Tips

    • A current valid driver’s license is required to rent a car in Finland. An international driving permit (IDP) is not required, but recommended for foreign drivers, especially if you plan to drive the car outside of Finland (and you should!)
    • Mileage and distance are in kilometers (km).
    • Car rental is widely available, and most rental companies have a minimum rental age of 25. Some rental companies have a maximum rental age.
    • Driving in Finland is on the right side of the road.
    • Rules regarding drinking and driving are very strict—zero tolerance.
    • When driving in Finland, you must be alert for wildlife on the roads.
    • Winter driving can be tricky with snow and possible slippery roads, and prior winter driving experience is recommended.
