Summer in the Arctic: Iceland and Greenland Expedition

You’ll arrive at Keflavik Airport and will transfer to Reykjavik for your next two nights via a private driver.  Reykjavík’s town center is relatively small, which makes it easy to explore on foot, which you’ll discover on your City Walking tour this afternoon. 

The rest of the evening is at your leisure to explore the city! We recommend visiting the Aurora Reykjavík Northern Lights Center, The Pearl or a local swimming pool.

Today, you’ll explore Iceland’s famed Golden Circle route on a guided tour. You’ll see its most spectacular natural features: Þingvellir National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), Geyser hot springs and Gullfoss waterfall. Stop at the multicolored Kerið Volcanic Crater Lake, a fascinating landmark created 3,000 years ago. Be ready for plenty of photo ops today!

Embark on a whale-watching adventure this morning! You’ll have the opportunity to see minke whales, humpback whales, white-beaked dolphins and harbor porpoises. Keep an eye out, and the crew will help you spot them, too! Transfer to the airport this afternoon for the next leg of your trip: Greenland.

Today is your first morning waking up in Greenland! You’ll be introduced to Greenlandic culture and history on your guided city walk this morning, which will give the other experiences in Greenland a new perspective. Learn about the history of the city, and the modern life 300 km north of the Arctic Circle. This evening, you’ll enjoy dinner at your hotel before embarking on a cruise on the UNESCO-listed Icefjord among the gigantic icebergs which have calved from a glacier up the fjord.

Get ready for a full-day glacier tour. Many places in Greenland are beautiful, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find a sight like Eqi glacier. Located in a fjord north of Illulissat,  it is possible to get very close to the edge of the glacier by boat and see big pieces of ice break off. The crashes are enormous, and the sight of the icebergs falling into the water is impressive. Your guide will inform you about the landscape and nature that can be seen on the way. When getting close to the glacier, a delicious lunch is served. The boat will stay in front of the glacier for approximately 1½ hours and you may even spot some calvings!

Take a fascinating journey into the past with a visit to the Sermermiut UNESCO site today, where different Inuit cultures have lived during the last 4,000 years. Today you can still find artifacts, which bear witness to their presence. Hear the story about the life and the customs of the Greenlanders before the Europeans arrived. You’ll get to see the ruins and kitchen mitten and feel the permafrost with your own hands.

Overnight in air en route to Reykjavik, Iceland

You’ll have a morning arrival in Reykjavik. This afternoon, you can visit the Sky Lagoon,, Iceland’s newest geothermal lagoon, which honors the centuries-old bathing culture in which Icelanders have trusted the calming, healing effects of geothermal water. Perhaps this is one of the reasons they are considered some of the happiest people on Earth.
