The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

Every August for approximately three weeks the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle hosts a series of Military Tattoos performed by British Armed Forces, Commonwealth, and International military bands and display teams.

The first official tattoo began in 1950, however, it did not receive its official “Royal” title until 2010 when Queen Elizabeth awarded the title to celebrate its 60th anniversary.

The Tattoo averages over 220,000 visitors each year and has sold out every year for the past decade.
