Since Janet can’t travel as much as she would like (bills have to get paid somehow!), she likes to travel vicariously with her clients and says it feels like they become friends as they work together booking their trips. What that means for you is that she wants you to have the best trip you can have and come back with wonderful, life-changing memories. She may practice a little “tough love” in the process. If she feels something is not going to be practical, cost-effective, or is not worth your time and effort, she’ll let you know so you can make the right decision for your trip.

Janet has been planning travel professionally since 1994, has specialized in Europe (with an emphasis on Ireland and the UK) since 2002, and has been with Tenon since 2013. She holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English from Portland State University, attended a study abroad program at the University of London, was awarded a full academic scholarship to the Yeats Summer School in Sligo, Ireland, and taught English in Japan before moving to New York more than 30 years ago. She has one daughter who married in May 2023 and will be starting a second graduate program in library sciences in January 2024 to complement her completed graduate degree in museum studies. We were all so very sad when her husband of 30 years, the editor and audio writer Art Dudley, passed away from metastatic cancer in 2020.

On Traveling With Kids
Janet believes that traveling with kids is hands down the most fun and the most stressful thing you will ever do. She recommends having as much structure and safety as you can—automatic car, pre-booked itinerary, travel insurance, etc— so you’re free to do all the wonderful, goofy things you would not likely do traveling as an adult, from seeing a dodo skeleton in what Dubliners call it the “Dead Zoo” (the Natural History Museum) to visiting a donkey sanctuary in Liscarrol. Just always, ALWAYS carry candy bars and crackers as emergency snacks!
