Mykonos, Santorini, Crete, Rhodes, Corfu, Paros, Naxos, Milos, Kefalonia, Zakynthos: from one of the sea to the other, the Greek Islands are the perfect holiday destination. Choose from experiences such as a stately excursion to Athens’ smaller, nearby islands in the Argosaronic Gulf or an expedition off the beaten track where you’ll discover hidden diamonds like Kiolos and Kastelorizo, Symi, Alonissos and Paxi. No matter where you visit, discovering the Greek Islands will be one of the most memorable vacations of your life.

SANTORINI

Santorini is an island phenomenon whose reputation precedes it. On this legendary island in the Cyclades, all your senses seem magnified, a product of its many contrasts: black earth against whitewashed homes clinging to the cliffside, or wild volcanic sculptures against sleek Cycladic lines.

Also known as Theria in Greek, Santorini is an island immortalized by poets and painters thanks to its celebrated multicolored cliffs and picture-perfect sunsets.

TRAVELING TO SANTORINI

Santorini has an airport with regular direct flights to Athens and international arrivals during the summer months. There are regular ferries to/from Piraeus and Rafina (eastern Attica) and many other Greek islands, including the Cyclades (Ios, Milos, Syros, Paros, etc.), Dodecanese (including Rhodes and Kos) and Crete. High-speed ferries can reach Santorini from Piraeus in four hours while conventional ferries take 8 hours.

THINGS TO DO ON SANTORINI

Santorini is best known for its caldera views, classic Cycladic architecture, luxury hotels and romantic sunsets. Probably the most famous sunset spot on Santorini is from Oia or just outside the village. The sunset from Imerovigli is made more special by the view of Thirasia island in the caldera. If you hike from Fira to Oia, there are many more intimate viewpoints along the way. Possibly the most personal sunset is from the Akrotiri lighthouse.

  • Lay back and indulge in luxury
  • Explore Akrotiri, the Pompeii of the Aegean
  • Taste the exquisite cuisine of Santorini
  • Take a boast to an island in the caldera
  • Swim in Santorini’s unique waters
  • Scubadive in volcanic waters
  • Learn about and taste local cuisine in ancient vineyards

MYKONOS

Mykonos has attracted international crowds like a magnet since the 1960s and has been voted a top-summer destination time and time again. Awash in its iridescent Aegean light which it shares with neighboring Delos, you’ll fall hopelessly in love with its exceptional beaches, award-winning restaurants, dreamy villas, luxury hotels and 5-star service.

Mykonos is known for its Cycladic architecture, cosmopolitan vibe and luxury accommodation. Many beaches have internationally-acclaimed restaurants and clubs, attracting celebrity DJs. Hora is considered one of the most iconic capitals of the Greek islands, with a selection of gourmet and traditional restaurants and bars as well as galleries and shops (boutique and traditional). You will also find plenty of hotels/villas, restaurants and shops in settlements around the island.

THINGS TO DO ON MYKONOS

The best-known landmarks on Mykonos are the windmills and Little Venice of Hora, as well as the 17th-century Church of Paraportiani, Castle of Gyzi, Monastery of Panagia Tourliani in Ano Mera and the Neolithic settlement of Ftelia.

CRETE

As Crete’s most celebrated author, Nikos Kazantzakis (of Zorba the Greek fame), once wrote: “The mystery of Crete runs deep. Whoever sets foot on this island senses a mysterious force coursing warmly and beneficently through their venus, sensing their soul to grow.”

Unsurprisingly, this mystical island to the south of the Aegean Sea captures the spirit of Greece and enchants everyone who visits. Heraklion, Rethymno, Chania, Agios Nikolaos, Elounda, Ierapetra, Malia, Hersonissos, Sitia, Sfakia…wherever you visit, its an island of thousands of vibrant images, filled with an open-hearted and vivacious spirit, rich history, world-famous cuisine and hospitable people.

TRAVELING TO CRETE

Crete has two airports, Chania and Heraklion, that serve international and domestic flights. The flight time to Athens is around 55 minutes and to Thessaloniki is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

THINGS TO DO ON CRETE

On Crete, you’ll find some of the most significant attractions in the Greek islands: famous archaeological sites such as the Minoan Palace of Knossos, Phaistos, Malia and Kato Zakros. You’ll also find important monasteries, some built in the 15-century or earlier, including the Preveli Monastery in southern Rethymnon, the monasteries in southern Heraklion and the historic Arkadi and Toplous monasteries. You’ll be transported to another time wandering around the castles erected by the Venetians and Byzantines. Particularly noteworthy are Kastelli in Chania, the Fortezza in Rethymnon, the castle of Heraklio, Frangokastello in southern Chania, the Kazarma castle in Sitia and the Monte Forte in Lassithi.

  • Explore the old town of Chania

RHODES

Rhodes has so many highlights, one visit is never enough. The landscape of this Dodecanese island has so much eye-catching beauty that it’s no wonder Rhodes is one of the most popular destinations in the Greek islands. This is where vast sandy beaches, clear waters, castles and ancient civilizations effortlessly mix with gourmet restaurants and traditional tavernas serving local delicacies.

THINGS TO DO ON RHODES

Rhodes is a beautiful mosaic of experiences: the island of knights and the mythical Colossus of Rhodes, where Byzantines, Greeks, Venetians and Turks all left something to remember them by. Alongside luxury resorts are villages where women still bake bread in an outdoor wood-fired oven.

  • Experience the cosmopolitan charm of Mandraki

CORFU

Corfu has a rich history that weaves a bewildering number of influences with the Venetians, English, French and Russians leaving their mark on the island.

In the Old Town, you’ll feel like an aristocrat walking along Liston Arcade and Spianada Square, gazing up at Venetian forts and churches. You’ll adore the romance of the labyrinth-like alleyways of Campiello (the medieval quarter of the Old Town) as well as the beat of the marching bands, particularly on festival days.

TRAVELING TO CORFU

Corfu has an airport with seasonal international and domestic flights from Athens throughout the year. The airport is found 2.5km outside Corfu town and can easily be reached by taxi or bus.

Vacations on Corfu are famous for the food, with many cultural influences expressed in dishes that show off Italian touches and this Greek island’s delicious Mediterranean produce. Entering the harbor of Naxos, you’re greeted by the ancient Portara – the massive marble gateway identical to the National Geographic logo – and the sight of the medieval castle above the town. Inland, you’ll find isolated villages untouched by time, like Tripodes, Filoti, Halki and Apeiranthos, that invite you to explore their beauty.

WHAT TO DO ON NAXOS

You’ll find Mt. Zas (another name for Zeus), green valleys, abandoned monasteries, venerable churches and lofty buildings likes Bazeos Tower. MILOS

To many visitors, Milos is the most exotic island in the Aegean Sea because of its extraordinary colors, landscape and volcanic rocks. It is, without a doubt, the most impressive in the Cyclades.

THINGS TO DO ON MILOS

The highlights of Milos seem endless: Sarakiniko and Kleftiko, with their white rock formations, emerald green waters and caves eroded by the sea, are steeped in stories of pirates. But they are rivaled by early Christian catacombs, an array of beaches and the multicolored settlements of Klima, Emborios and Mandrakia with their quaint buildings cut into the cliffs, and Plaka’s sunsets. And let’s not forget that this is where the Venus de Milo (the exquisite life-sized marble statue believed to be the goddess Aphrodite, now housed in the Louvre) was discovered. All of these cry out in unison: amongst all the incredible islands of Greece, Milos is unique.

Changes scenes, you’ll be intoxicated by the smell of jasmine and bougainvillea and the maze of hidden alleyways in Parikia and leisurely afternoons in Naoussa’s tiny marinas.
