Are you dreaming of visiting the beautiful country of Greece? With its warm Mediterranean climate, there are places in Greece that are suitable to visit any time of the year. Of course, what you plan to see and do will affect the timing of any European vacation.
We put this helpful chart together to help you decide on the best time to visit Greece.
The ideal time to visit Greece is during what we typically call “shoulder seasons” for many of our other European destinations. Shoulder seasons are the travel periods between on- and off-peak travel seasons, typically falling sometime in the spring and fall months. For Greece specifically, we recommend traveling in late spring (April – May) or in early fall (September – October).
Why are these months considered the best time to visit Greece? For starters, you’ll experience milder weather. Secondly, traveling during the shoulder seasons is less popular for travel, which means that you’ll experience fewer tourists. This can be beneficial for several reasons –
Summers in Greece are known to be hot and dry. From May through October, temperatures range from the mid- to high-70s. While this is during peak travel season, it’s a great time to visit Greece’s sparkling beaches such as St Paul’s, Perissa and Mylopotas. Spend your days lounging oceanside then go into town in the evenings to enjoy a plethora of nightlife and dining.
Not surprisingly, winters in Greece are the opposite of what you’ll experience in the summertime. Winter months are cool and wet, with temperatures ranging from the high 50s to mid-60s. Depending on where you reside in the world, this may or may not be a cold winter for you. In the mountainous regions of Greece, snow can be expected, but there are several warmer areas to explore during this time of year as well. Crete and Santorini are popular destinations for tourists during the off-season from November – February.
