Overnight in Copenhagen

After a delicious smørgåsbord breakfast at your hotel, you are ready to conquer your day of sightseeing! The Danes practice sustainability in many ways, one of which is riding bikes, you will be sure to see them all over the country. You may want to join a guided bike tour while in Copenhagen! Visit the Little Mermaid statue, sitting on her rock in the harbor, then walk a short distance to Amalienborg Castle, home of the Danish royal family. If you time it right, you can witness the changing of the guard. Copenhagen has a wonderful selection of museums and historic sites, as well as the Strøget walking street. Board a small boat for a guided boat tour through the charming canals, and visit the famous Tivoli Gardens.

Self-drive or enjoy a rail journey to Aarhus, the second-largest city in Denmark. Aarhus is a beautiful historic town with a charming seafront and a breathtaking old town, which is an open-air museum. Being “the door to Jutland” Aarhus has an incredible selection of activities to offer whether you like culture, nature, family-friendly activities or just relaxing.

Continue with your self-drive or rail journey to Denmark’s 4th largest city, Aalborg. We recommend a private walking tour with a local guide to visit the landmarks of the city and finish off on the famous Jomfru Ane Street – one of the liveliest streets in the country with many restaurants and outdoor life. Alternatively, choose one of our other options for a great afternoon!

Overnight in Aalborg

Continue your drive, or private transfer to Hirtshals ferry pier, where you’ll board the express day ferry to Kristiansand, Norway. This is a short 3.25-hour cruise, with shops and cafés on board. Arrive in Kristiansand, then continue your drive, or travel by train, to Stavanger. Your guided evening walk of Old Stavanger and the harbor front will introduce you to this charming city.

Stavanger is a vibrant city offering museums, culture, and outdoor activities. We recommend a day trip to the famous Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock), perhaps the most photographed cliff in Norway. Choose to cruise on the fjord below, or take a hike to the top for a breathtaking view of the mountains and fjord.

Overnight in Stavanger

Continue along Norway’s breathtaking west coast on the Fjord Line ferry to Bergen. The best way to see Bergen is on foot through its narrow, cobblestone streets and historic Bryggen waterfront. We recommend a guided walk, combined with a fish tasting at Norway’s most famous fish market. Take a trip on Fløibanen funicular to the top of Mt. Fløien, for a stunning view of the city, mountains, and fjords! It’s possible to take the funicular up and then walk down through charming neighborhoods.

Continue to explore Bergen on your own. There are many museums and places of historical significance here, such as the 13th century Håkon’s Hall, and St. Mary’s Church, which is the oldest building in Bergen, built between 1130 and 1170. Wander around the centuries-old Bryggen, shop for Norwegian sweaters and other unique souvenirs, and spend time in the famous fish market.

Highlights (optional): Attend a piano recital at Troldhaugen, a culinary walking tour, a horseback ride in the idyllic mountains, a glacier hike on Folgefanna glacier, and whitewater rafting.

Overnight in Bergen

Bergen is known as the “gateway to the fjords”, which is where your journey will take you next! Your route will depend if you are driving or if you take the train, but either way, it will be magnificent. Travel on the iconic Flåm Railway, and enjoy a fjord cruise on the Aurlandsfjord, and Nærøyfjord, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. You’ll marvel at the steep mountains, idyllic mountain farms, and lush landscapes as you travel by boat. Continue to the ski resort town of Geilo, surrounded by valleys, mountains, and beautiful rivers.

Continue by car or train to Oslo, Norway’s capital. Situated at the head of the beautiful Oslofjord, you’ll find historic sights, museums, stunning parks, and restaurants serving a variety of food. Oslo is also famous for its outdoor activities like kayaking, biking, hiking, sailing, and skiing.

Oslo has so much to offer, it’s difficult to choose what to do! Discover the sights on the Hop On/Hop Off bus, or join a guided tour. Browse the many world-class museums, and discover the historic treasures such as Akershus Fortress, City Hall, the site of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony each December 10, Vigeland Sculpture Park, the Viking Ship Museum, and Holmenkollen ski jump. The Aker Brygge wharf area offers shops, cafes, restaurants, and a lively atmosphere.
