gayleneotto3Where did you travel to Gaylene?:
“Ireland.”

What made you want to travel to Ireland?:

“We visited Ireland 4 Septembers ago & wanted to explore areas new to us. I don’t go to Ireland to see big cities. I go to see beautiful landscapes. Visiting with the locals, seeing the ocean, farmland, sheep/cattle grazing, small towns, all the friendly people you meet along the way. That is why I go to Ireland!”

Who did you travel with?:
“My husband of 37 years.”

What were your must see sights of Ireland this time and did you get to make it them?:
“First, we wanted to visit County Mayo to see where my husband’s maternal great grandparents lived before migrating to USA. Second, we wanted to spend time in northern Ireland’s Antrim Coastal area to capture the beauty of the landscape. Third, seeing all the beautiful country side in between! All sights surpassed our expectations! We drove nearly 1000 miles in 7 days!”

What was the best part about your vacation?:
“Driving around in County Londonderry & County Antrim. Everything was beautifully fantastic! Coleraine, Portstewart, Portrush, Portballintrae, Giant’s Causeway, Causeway coastal route, Bushmills, White Park Bay, Ballintoy, Ballintoy Harbor, Ballycastle Bay, Fair Head, Murlough Bay, Fairhead, Torr Head & Cushendun.”

Why did you choose Tenon Tours? What advantages did you have booking with Tenon Tours?:
“I chose Tenon Tours (saw on Internet) 3 yrs ago when planning a (Sept 2014) girlfriend trip to southern Ireland. We wanted to celebrate our 60th birthdays early. Tenon offers 24 hour service, you call Tenon if encounter a problem. Our families felt that we’d be safe. That was a wonderful trip too so wanted Tenon to help with this trip.”

Anything to add about your personal sales representatives?:

“Stephanie (2 yrs ago) & Molly (this trip) were friendly & helpful!”

Do you wish you prepared better for any specific part of the trip?:
“Molly was helping via email & phone. She booked our rental car, Dublin hotel, ride from airport to hotel, suggested areas for overnight stays once we left Dublin, driving routes, etc. I planned to choose B&B’s. I was busy with work/life & struggling getting them chosen. Molly checked in with me & offered to narrow B&B search by checking dates & availability. It is overwhelming working full-time & trying to plan a BIG trip! Molly’s assistance made it so easy! My husband was impressed how smooth the trip was!”

Any advice about the weather?:
“Dress in layers, we packed light, take 1 pair water resistant shoes. Most days we wore a jacket, always have an umbrella. We had 1 day of steady rain, but it was OK to walk around with umbrellas because we were on vacation! Our B&B’s had heat on for nighttime.”

Did travel insurance come in handy for you?:
“We had travel insurance but fortunately did not need it. It was comforting to know it was there if needed.”

Tell us about any new friends you may have met along the way.:
“Castlebar “Devard” B&B (Nora & Peter) was outstanding! Portrush’s “Beulah Guest House” was quaintly outstanding! Portmarnock Oakleigh B&B (Aileen) was also outstanding for a wonderful last night & short drive to Dublin airport. We met a young couple from Germany & gave them our contact info.”

What are your favorite souvenirs you brought home?:

“I bought 3 pairs of ankle boots in Portmarnock & carefully jammed them in my carry-on! We also bought County Mayo mementos.”

Were there any unplanned parts of your trip that wound up turning into one of your favorite travel stories?:
“Our rental car died on a hill in Letterkenny! 5 locals came running to help. They stayed and helped push the car up hill. After 30 minutes of conversation, it started!”

Where are you looking to travel next?:
“Ireland & Scotland!”

What us your favorite romantic thing you did.:
“We enjoyed driving in car together & seeing breathtaking scenery. We walked around together in various bays. We enjoyed walking on Portmarnock’s seashore our last night gathering shells. My husband works 7 days a week, this trip was to get him away from his job!”

How did you feel about driving on the “wrong” side of the road?:
“I had driven 2 years ago. The passenger is important in helping the driver to read GPS and maps, watch the left side of road, coach driver through roundabouts, etc. My husband got a kick out of driving!”

Any advice for the “round-abouts” or “circles” while driving?:
“They always make me giggle! You take a deep breath!”
