Welcome to Norway! Get acquainted with Norway’s capital with a guided walking tour of the city center and harbor area. Overnight in Oslo

After a delightful smørgåsbord breakfast, continue to explore Oslo. You can choose from a variety of museums including the historic Viking ships and Thor Heyerdahl’s Kon-Tiki raft, the art of Edvard Munch, or the outdoor Vigeland sculpture park. Oslo is a very walkable city and great to explore on your own or you can join a guided tour.

Highlights (optional): Tour the city with the Hop-on & Hop-off Bus. Join a guided bike tour. Cruise on the Oslofjord, including lunch or dinner.

Pick up your rental car and begin your journey into the countryside. Visit Hadeland Glassworks, founded in 1762 and Norway’s oldest industrial company with continuous operation. Observe the craftspeople creating beautiful works of art still using traditional techniques. Take time for coffee or lunch, and of course, shop! Continue to the town of Fagernes, nestled in the mountains next to a lake.

Drive through stunning mountains and deep valleys. Visit Borgund stave church, a well-preserved, richly decorated wooden church that dates back to 1180. Stop by the Norwegian Salmon Center with an interesting exhibition of the life cycle of the salmon. Ferry across the fjord and drive along its shores to the village of Balestrand. You can visit another stave church en route, in Kaupanger.

Highlights (optional): Visit the Norwegian Salmon Center in Lærdal. Stroll through the historic section of Lærdal’s wooden houses. Stop to see the Kaupanger stave church.

Kvikne’s Hotel’s history goes back to 1752 and is currently operated by the 4th generation of the Kvikne family. The hotel itself is like a museum, with a remarkable architecture, hand-carved wood walls, ceilings and furniture in the main building, and features an extensive personal art collection of the owners. Kick back, relax and absorb your surroundings, or choose an activity or two!

Begin your day with a ferry across the mighty Sognefjord. In the fjord village of Vik, you can visit the Hopperstad stave church, which dates to approximately 1130. Then, ascend the mountain and take in the stunning views. Pass through the resort town of Voss, and stop at the Dale sweater factory store to shop for some authentic Norwegian sweaters.

Overnight in Bergen

The harbor city of Bergen is surrounded by nature and steeped in history. A smørgåsbord of activities awaits! There are a variety of museums including art galleries, historical museums, and many locations of historical significance. One location you should not miss is Bryggen, the Hanseatic wharf, now a UNESCO World Heritage site. Follow narrow passageways between the old wooden buildings, which now house quaint shops, offices, and restaurants. Make sure to check out the famous fish market, as well! Your local guide will be sure to show you Bergen’s highlights.

Highlights (optional): Take the funicular to the top of Mt. Fløien for a magnificent view of the city, mountains, and fjords below. You’ll also find wonderful walking trails, and you will never know you’re just above the city. Recital at Edvard Grieg’s Troldhaugen. Explore museums on your own.
